Who We Are
Lumen/Umbra Aeterna by R&W (LUA) is an art-inspired IEM brand, using earphones and tuning to explore the messages and philosophies within artistic expression. In collaboration with Taiwanese artist Cypress Tsai, who drew inspiration from LUA’s designs, each serves as a canvas, with sound as the brush, capturing the journey of soulmates from first encounter to transcendent union.
LUA's 2025 offerings also collaborate with HOKKI, a Taiwanese artisanal fragrance brand celebrated for its evocative scents. Each perfume in this collection has been carefully curated to harmonize with the sonic character of LUA's IEMs, personally selected by Zephon Wing and Cypress Tsai to complement her original works.
This partnership unites three art forms — music, fragrance, and visual art — through a shared vision of artistry and emotional depth, creating an experience that transcends the boundaries of any single medium.
In line with R&W's guiding philosophy of "musicality over technicality," LUA moves beyond the typical driver-stacking trend to embody a "less is more" approach. The result is a nuanced, immersive experience that embodies the idea that "hearing is believing."

The Story
The LUA Story
Lumen/Umbra Aeterna is Latin for "eternal light and darkness." Inspired by the Eastern concept of yin and yang, it reflects a dynamic equilibrium of opposites — motion and stillness, light and shadow, truth and contradiction — and how one always makes way for the other and vice versa. At its core lies the paradox of existence: "Truth dwells within paradoxes."
The LUA series boldly combines art and literature, presenting not three standalone creations but a unified narrative — an emotional journey spanning three chapters of life.
SERENDIPITY | A Beautiful Chance Meeting
The first chapter recounts the serendipitous meeting of two lovers. It captures the fiery passion of young love — intense, unforgettable, but ultimately fleeting. Too young and naive to understand love’s depth, they part ways amidst misunderstandings and unspoken regrets.
Serendipity’s sound emphasizes atmosphere and presence, with a dynamic, expressive signature akin to an impressionist painting, evoking the hazy beauty of a love too early to last.
SYNCHRONICITY | Fateful Coincidences
Decades later, after enduring life’s trials, their paths cross again. A series of fateful coincidences brings them back together, as if everything they endured was leading to this moment. Synchronicity reflects these meaningful intersections of destiny. This chapter portrays a matured bond, where passion gives way to heartfelt resonance.
Synchronicity’s sound reflects this growth with refined lows, elevated mids and highs, and an ethereal soundstage, capturing the harmony of two souls reconnecting.
CELESTIAN | Transcendence of Twin Souls
The final chapter tells of their transcendence — a bond no longer defined by passion but by eternal unity. Two twin souls, once separate, now find completion, achieving balance, serenity, and timelessness.
